Depression Therapy in Farnham Surrey by Anna Kenyon
Bipolar disorder is a condition which involves extreme mood swings, with episodes of mania and depression. During the depression episode an individual is very lethargic and low in mood and during a manic phase overactive and impulsive. Each episode of bipolar disorder can last for several weeks or more and the extreme highs and lows experienced with bipolar disorder can greatly interfere with everyday life.
There are several options for treating bipolar disorder. These treatments aim to moderate the variation in mood in order to minimise the interference of bipolar disorder to everyday life. Treatment will generally involve a combination of medication to prevent episodes of mania and depression (mood stabilisers), medication to treat the symptoms of depression and mania when an episode does occur, and psychological therapy. The psychological therapy will help an individual suffering from bipolar disorder to recognise the triggers and indicators of depression and mania, and provide tools to help manage these episodes when they do occur.
If you think that you may be suffering from bipolar disorder it is important to see your GP as soon as possible. The Psychology Clinic will work with your GP or the referring Psychiatrist to ensure the treatment you receive is tailored and appropriate to your needs.
