Anxiety Panic Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Phobia Therapy in Farnham Surrey by Anna Kenyon
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterised by repetitive, unpleasant and obsessive thoughts which cause a person to feel anxious. In order to reduce the anxiety, an individual will be driven to carry out specific compulsive behaviours, which serve to reduce the anxiety in the first instance, but over time will maintain the anxiety. Depending on the severity of the condition, a combination of therapy and medication may be required. OCD can greatly interfere with day-to-day life, and left untreated will often increasingly dominate an individual’s life as the compulsions continue to reinforce the obsessive thoughts. With treatment however, most people will make a full recovery, or at the very least recover to the point at which they are able to live their lives happily and without the obsessive thoughts and compulsions dominating their thinking and behaviour.
The Psychology Clinic uses a well-established treatment protocol, developed by one of the leading figures in cognitive-behavioural therapy today. The treatment has been well researched and is used with great success.
If you think that you may be suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, it is advisable to see your GP as soon as possible. The Psychology Clinic will work with your GP or the referring Psychiatrist to ensure the treatment you receive is tailored and appropriate to your needs.
